modul.musik is the first release of zeichensprecher.
although I am convinced that it's better listening to music than talking about, there are two things, I want you to know:
at first (and most important!) there are humans and not only machines behind this project. you can see them here (from left-top to down-right):

zeichensprecherdaniel, guitar
jan, bass
eva & roy

1) that's me, michael. I'm singing, composing, keeping track of all the electronic things going on and - finally - playing the modul[1]: a virtual music instrument, controlled by gesture and fingerpressure. The modul[1] is my diploma as an communications-desinger. it enables the live-performance of harmonic shifted electronic tones together with conventional instruments. up again.

2) that's daniel, guitarplayer. I spent over five years in a band with him. what else can I say? listen and you'll hear he's an excellent musician. up again.

3) that's jan. while he's not piloting huge airplanes, he's playing bass. I'm glad he followed my invitation, because he is one of the best bass-players I know! up again.

4) here are roy and eva. they both help me singing and have very important parts on "allnächtlich" (read more about it later!). moreover they operate some cool sound-machines like the KAOSSpads from KORG and the airFX and airSynth from Alesis, all four of them great tools for interactive live music performances. up again.

whoow? too blurry?
well - come to our next LIVE-performace and it'll get better ;)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

there are four quite different songs on modul.musik:

comebackanalog
allnaechtlichweR

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

comeback) I stopped five years ago making music with a band. now I'm back with a new instrument and a way to combine electronic possibilities with "analogue" musicians. it feels good. just a pop-song. I know. up again.

analog) trust me. do you believe the pictures you see. is an analogue information more trustworthy than it's digital clone? up again.

allnächtlich) if you ever heard the romantic songs of robert schumann you might understand this song, if not: hear it twice (and before that: read "die leiden des jungen werther" of johann wolfgang von goethe!). this song is the translation of my personal experiences with this great composer of the romantic epoch. it is an experiment to convert my personal emotions of singing classical schumann songs into a modern, up-to-date version.
not only has schumann been one of the first persons ever to write "lieder" (songs) to be performed in "living-rooms" – the most impressing point to me is his perfect setting to music of the all-present conflicts between forced social behaviors and individual longings that always end up in bitter tragedy.
I chose three textfragments: two of them are out of the song-circle "dichterliebe", composed in 1840 on lyrics by heinrich heine; and one of the song-circle "frauenliebe und -leben", also composed in 1840 on lyrics by adalbert von chamisso. the three parts stand for: the longing but unyielded love ("allnächtlich"), the passion and power of affinity ("seit ich ihn gesehen") and finally the victory of the social conformism over individual passion ("das ist ein flöten und geigen") while the unavoidable marriage with the wrong man is going on... up again.

weR) this song is nothing but a question. do you have the answer to life?
